Your Rights
Last updated: 25 May 2026
Please note: this is a general, plain-English summary for information only and is not legal advice. Clifford Building Contractors should seek independent professional or legal advice to finalise this page, and you should seek your own advice on your specific situation.
We want you to feel confident when you work with us. This page is a friendly overview of two sets of rights you have: your rights as a consumer when hiring a builder, and your rights over your personal data.
Your consumer rights
When you hire us, you are protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. In short, this means:
Reasonable care and skill
Our building work must be carried out with reasonable care and skill — to the standard you would expect from a competent professional builder.
Materials of satisfactory quality
Any materials we supply as part of the work must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
A reasonable price
Where a price has not been fixed in advance, you only have to pay a reasonable amount for the work carried out.
A reasonable timeframe
Where no completion date has been agreed, work should be carried out within a reasonable time.
Putting things right
If work is not done with reasonable care and skill, you can ask us to put it right. If that is not possible or is not done within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to a price reduction.
If you have a concern about any work we have carried out, please talk to us first — we would always rather put things right than leave you unhappy. You can also get free, impartial guidance from Citizens Advice.
Your data protection rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights over the personal data we hold about you:
Right to be informed
To be told how and why we use your personal data — set out in our Privacy Policy.
Right of access
To request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification
To have inaccurate or incomplete personal data corrected.
Right to erasure
To ask us to delete your personal data where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
Right to restrict processing
To ask us to limit how we use your personal data in certain circumstances.
Right to data portability
To receive the data you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
Right to object
To object to our use of your personal data, including for direct marketing, and to withdraw any consent you have given.
How to exercise your rights
To exercise any of these rights, just get in touch. We will respond within one month, as required by law. There is normally no charge.
